VK Civil was recently on the campuses of Western Michigan University and Calvin University participating in college career fairs! Engaging with the next generation of engineers is a key part of our commitment to growth, innovation, and community. This year marks another step in VK Civil’s steady growth with three new engineers as of the time of writing this article. After interning at VK during the fall of 2024, Daniel Oyer has been hired as a full-time engineer-in-training. Daniel is originally from Northwest Ohio, and moved to Michigan to attend Calvin University, where he graduated this past spring with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. The new Dowagiac Fire Station is under construction! In celebration, a beam signing ceremony took place on Friday, May 31. It was a great event, and VK is thankful to be a part of the project as the civil engineer. This project has a stellar team of owners, designers, and contractors, and we look forward to the completion of the Fire Station!

VK Civil is proud to have sponsored a Western Michigan University Civil Engineering Senior Design Team in their Capstone Project! The team’s project involved a site design of the Northwest Cancer Center proposed in Northern Indiana. They learned real world engineering practices and professional skills that they will use as they enter the workforce. The students did a fantastic job with their presentation. We are excited to announce that Greg Whittle has joined team VK Civil. He comes to us with 10 years of experience in both private and municipal work but will primarily focus his efforts on the private development team. Greg is licensed in Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa. VK Civil was a platinum sponsor of the 2023 AIA (American Institute of Architects) Northern Indiana Golf Outing in South Bend Indiana. The weather was perfect for an afternoon of camaraderie and friendly competition on the golf course. June 2 was the grand opening of the splash pad at Caledonia’s Community Green Park. Bringing the community together in celebration, marking the beginning of a summer filled with laughter and cherished moments for all who visit. I (Dan) was tempted to make the title “VK Civil Grows in Height and Capacity”.  We recently added two new team members to our private development team. They happen to be the tallest members in the private development team picture below. Collin Wilson joins us as an EIT (Engineer in Training) with 3 years of experience in private development design. VK Civil recently had the privilege of attending the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Viking Stadium at Niles High School. VK was hired by CARMI Design Group to assist with the civil engineering design of a new track and artificial turf football field. The project turned out great and the first sporting event happened on the field right after the celebration. Congrats to Niles on your new track and field!
